Kulturstatistik och u-länder

Många konstaterar att kultustatistiken behöver ses över. En av orsakerna är att jämförelser mellan länder är svår.

FN-organet Unesco har startat en process för att revidera sitt ramverk från 1986. I förra veckan släpptes ett utkast för att bjuda in till dialog.

Målet är att bättre samla och jämföra kulturstatistik i olika länder, inte minst i ländet utanför västvärlden, då gränsen mellan amatör och professionell är mer flytande.

“The original document represents a Western view of culture, based on the frequentation of museums, for example, or the numbers of people ‘employed’ in professional theatre or dance companies.

This perspective does not reflect the conditions and priorities of developing countries, where culture is often used to supplement earnings from agricultural work. New statistical tools and techniques are needed to identify people in ‘secondary cultural occupations’, which involve a fluid boundary between the professional and amateur or the performer and audience. In many societies, culture is a source of income as well as identity and cohesion, which may be increasingly endangered.”

Slutresultatet ska presenteras nästa år.
